Given that school finishes in June in Canada and a lot of the girls friends were set to return to England during the summer, I decided to have their birthday parties early in June and foolishly back to back. Holly's was first. She had 14 friends round to the house for a disco and birthday tea. The weather was foul and I had very little parental help. Unfortunately Stuart had to work (as usual!). I decorated the basement with streamers and balloons. There were disco lights and a glitter ball. The kids were pretty unruly... the boys just jumped all over the furniture, whilst the girls had little squabbles and strops - trying to play games was a nightmare. Let's just say never again - too many 6/7 year olds in too smaller space.
Amy had 10 little friends round for a similar sort of party with a slight variation in the games played. It was a much calmer party although disco dancing was not really a hit with 3/4 year olds. Both girls had a birthday lunch/tea. I'm lucky enough to have a huge dinning table in the dining room which can seat up to 22 people so having them all seated together was not a problem. Holly had a cream cupcake theme and Amy a pink princess theme. I made heart shaped sandwiches and cheese and pineapple sticks which were a favourite with all the kids together with baby tomatoes, carrots, crisps and sausage rolls, all of which were chosen by the girls. I also made the birthday cakes and not just any birthday cakes. Holly wanted a candy house and Amy a princess castle. Well having done nothing like this before the planning stage was quite a stressful. One cake would have been bad enough but to agree to making two and so close together was quite a challenge. Anyway I managed to complete both cakes in time and make a back up of 24 well iced pink and yellow cupcakes. The cakes weren't perfect by any means but no bad for my first attempt I thought! You can see for yourself.
