In October the girls started their Saturday morning ice-skating lessons - $120 each for the whole season i.e. October through to April didn't seem like a bad deal to me. We were left a pair of skates by our predecessors whose seven year old shared the same size feet as Holly, and I managed to get a pair of little boots for Amy from a second hand shop downtown for the bargain price of $3. We also had to kit them out with winter sports helmets and suitable attire. It didn't take long before they were both shuffling around the ice, slowly but on their own. Every now and again I'd hear a cry and know that Amy had fallen over. I'd rush on to the ice to help her up and was firmly met with some resistance from the instructors. I was fairly uncomfortable with this to begin with (as you can imagine) but quickly saw the benefit as she would try to get up by herself. Before we leave I would love for the girls to get to a standard so that we could all go skating (not shuffling) as a family. We will see what happens!
