On Christmas Eve we were invited to a friends for supper. It was lovely to socialise
with the other families left in the village over Christmas. A lot of people go to the mountains or go back to the UK. The girls wrote Santa a letter which they left on the table in front of the fireplace together with a bottle of beer, some raisin cookies and a few carrots for reindeer. Amazingly they went straight to sleep leaving Stuart and I the task of moving the presents we had been collecting and storing in the basement to the lounge. Christmas Day started for us at the reasonable time of 7 o clock. In fact we had to wake Holly up! Santa had left behind his usual snowy footprints (the type that don't melt but stain the carpet!) and lots of presents. He had eaten the cookies and surprisingly drunk the beer and left the bottle on the table (he obviously doesn't recycle!). Amy's face was a picture as she ran in to the kitchen shouting "he's been he's been". We had a nice day with all the traditions - turkey and crackers, but sadly it didn't snow.
New Year was very quiet and uneventful. The village remained deserted. I was in bed by 10pm!
