January and Olympic Torch comes to Ralston

Shortly after New Year we returned to Fernie for five days. The snow was still good, but there was one day when it rained all day. I was very keen to get the girls back to school in to a routine and to get shopping for those post Christmas bargains. Christmas cards and decorations were surprisingly quite expensive here, so I was saving myself for the sales.

As I'm sure you are all aware the Winter Olympics are being held in Vancouver and on 17th January the Olympic torch came through Ralston. To celebrate the village put on a family fun day. The minor hockey team put on a display, there were games on and off the ice and the "Devils" (lady hockey team) played PSP (4 Canadian sports/gym personnel). These guys wore tuxedos, no pads and ran rings around 20 lady Devils on the ice showing off their incredible skills and skating ability. It was really good fun.

The following weekend myself and 14 other girls travelled to Hanna to play in a hockey tournament. We played three games and were beaten every time, which was a little demoralising, but I just keep reminding myself that many of the team have only been playing for 4 months. I returned home feeling battered, bruised and exhausted. I'm much fitter than I was, but not as fit as I once was - if you know what I mean! Watch this space for the team photo which I will add at a later date (added). I'm currently playing hockey three times a week - Mondays I attend Hockey Improvement Training, Wednesdays I have team practice and Thursdays we play the men. I also shinny (knock around) at the weekend if Stuart lets me!

All of us have suffered with colds this month and both girls have had conjunctivitis. The weather has been a bit changeable. Last week was barmy warm. The snow melted resulting in treacherous icy conditions for walking and driving. This week has been very cold. I wondered what next month will bring.
