Kimberley - February 2010

For half-term we went to Kimberley for a week's skiing. Kimberley is about 90 minutes past Fernie in British Columbia. Within an hour of leaving Ralston Amy was sick in the car and we had to make an unplanned stop at Tim Horton's to clear up the mess (any excuse for a coffee and "Timbits" (mini-doughnuts)! We arrived in Cranbrook at about 4.30am and stayed the night in a nice motel called Elizabeth Lake Lodges. The following morning we continued on to Kimberley where we rented a condo perfectly located just adjacent to the ski hill. We could literally ski to our back door which was great. The Olympics were on and I spent a few afternoons and evenings glued to the TV. The weather was fantastic - hot and sunny, although it was clearly affecting the snow. Many resorts on the west side of the country have been suffering from a lack of snow for some time, especially Vancouver which significantly hampered Olympic preparations. Many towns in Canada are reporting barmy warm temperatures for this time of year. Whilst in Kimberley we also tried night skiing and went to a dog-sledding competition which the girls loved. The girls skiing has improved and Holly is now good enough to have poles! So all in all we had a great week.
