Now that Prairie season is fully underway and there is a distinct lack of men around the village I decided to cook Sunday roast for the Prairie widows (ladies with husbands who work on the prairie pretty much non-stop from May to November). So on 23rd May 20 people came to dinner and I actually cooked three roasts that day as I cooked for the children first, then the adults and I cooked again in the evening for Stuart and Paul Nanson (Amy's Godfather), who happened to be over visiting on an exercise. Amazingly I didn't burn the potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings weren't bad either. I'm getting a bit good at this cooking lark!
The following weekend Holly went to Sparks camp. This involved two nights away from home staying at Elkwater in the Cypress Hills. Holly had never stayed away from home before other than with family and she and I were both a little anxious before she went. However I needn't have worried as she had a great time singing songs around the camp fire, playing games and doing crafts. Sadly the weather was pretty dismal and on Saturday morning (29th May) they awoke to find it had snowed. This didn't stop the girls going out and about and having fun though. Thank goodness I packed wellies and waterproof trousers.
